The
Club Foundation of today is not the result
of a single vision, but those of many industry
leaders. Acknowledging that continuing education
is a priority for club managers, Bud Hall,
MCM; Jim Petzing, CCM; Red Steger, CCM;
and Jack Sullivan, CCM, determined that
CMAA needed a fundraising entity to help
support the mounting costs of professional
development programs. As a result of this
forward thinking, The Club Management Institute
Foundation, a 501 (c)(3) charitable organization,
was created in October 1988.
In its first few years, The Club Management
Institute Foundation solicited annual donations
from members, chapters and corporations
and immediately distributed scholarships
to students and grants to CMAA student chapters.
Through the Scholarship and Grant Program,
The Club Management Institute Foundation
helped to educate and prepare the next generation
of club managers.
Still, The Club Management Institute Foundation's
Board of Governors longed to provide club
managers and others connected with the private
club industry with additional educational
opportunities. With a short track record
and limited funds to make their dreams a
reality, they sought guidance to achieve
their goals. |
